Der erste Tag im Praktikum steht an und Du bist nervös? Völlig normal! Aber hier kommt eine beruhigende Nachricht: Niemand erwartet, dass Du perfekt durchstartest. Es gibt sogar einen Begriff dafür – den „Welpenschutz” in den ersten hundert Tagen. Du darfst Fehler machen und aus ihnen lernen.

Das Unternehmen hat Dich eingestellt, weil es überzeugt von Dir ist. Jetzt geht es darum, dass Du Dich wohlfühlst und gut ankommst. Wie gelingt das?

Drei Grundregeln für die ersten Tage:

Fragen stellen ist Pflicht, nicht Kür! Nutze die Anfangszeit bewusst, um Deinen Kolleginnen und Deiner Führungskraft alle Fragen zu stellen, die Dir in den Sinn kommen. Mach Dir dabei Notizen – das zeigt Deine Professionalität und hilft Dir, wichtige Informationen nicht zu vergessen.

Tipp: Erkundige Dich, wo und wie KI im Unternehmen eingesetzt wird bzw. in Deinem Arbeitsumfeld.

Anschluss finden: Schließ Dich beim Mittagessen oder zur Kaffeepause dem Team an. Hier lernst Du nicht nur Deine neuen Kolleginnen kennen, sondern erfährst auch viel über die informellen Strukturen und die Unternehmenskultur.

Tipp: Smalltalk ist Silber, gezielt Fragen und Zuhören sind Gold!

Feedback aktiv einfordern: Frag nach einer Woche nach erstem Feedback. Das zeigt Deine Motivation und hilft Dir, Dich schnell zu verbessern. Vergiss nicht: Die ersten Tage sind dafür da, anzukommen – nicht perfekt zu sein!

Your First Days in a New Internship – Arrive Relaxed Instead of Starting Perfect

Your first day of internship is coming up and you’re nervous? Completely normal! But here’s some reassuring news: Nobody expects you to start perfectly. There’s even a term for it in German – “Welpenschutz” (puppy protection) during your first hundred days. You’re allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.

The company hired you because they’re convinced of your abilities. Now it’s about making sure you feel comfortable and settle in well. How do you achieve this?

Three ground rules for the first days:

Asking questions is mandatory, not optional! Use the initial period deliberately to ask your colleagues and supervisor all the questions that come to mind. Take notes while doing so – this demonstrates your professionalism and helps you remember important information.

Tip: Find out where and how AI is used in the company or in your work environment.

Connect with the team: Join your colleagues for lunch or coffee breaks. This is where you’ll not only get to know your new teammates but also learn a lot about informal structures and company culture.

Tipp: Smalltalk is silver, questions and listening are gold!

Actively request feedback: Ask for initial feedback after one week. This shows your motivation and helps you improve quickly. Don’t forget: The first days are for settling in – not for being perfect!
